The range of market data platforms on the market today is dominated by those designed for enterprise-scale deployment and/or targeting sub-millisecond latency numbers (in tests if not in production).
DOT’s Market Data Platform, however, doesn’t compete with any of them. We’ve been successfully supplying our Market Data platform, originally branded as OMDP (Open Market Data Platform), for over five years. Its role is to allow simple, but highly cost-effective market data distribution systems to be set up, without the requirement for dedicated hardware or networks. And it works extremely well.
This is a streamlined data platform able to run over a variety of transport mechanisms including TIB RV, and TCP. A distribution platform can be created simply by running a server or a copy of Excel and then allowing client applications to connect.
Make no mistake: the DOT platform is capable of very high throughput (up to100,000 messages per second) and moderately low latency (sub 2ms) with a full permissioning system allowing Bloomberg-acceptable permissioning schemes to be implemented.
SO WHY WOULD YOU WANT THE DOT MARKET DATA PLATFORM?
Reasonably priced and easily deployed to implement a system for distributing data from the Bloomberg shared feeds such as SAPI and BPOD.
Distributes internal rates to work groups which don’t justify the cost of a full Market Data terminal, such as those demanded by Bloomberg or Reuters.
Coupled with the RTT Canned Data playback developers, it can work and test with a simulated feed, saving the cost of live data.
